8 Tips for Traveling Solo

Traveling alone is a great way to find yourself—and meet other people when you get sick of that company. Budget Travel passes along advice from experienced soloers:

1. You'll be carrying your own bags, so pack clothes that can do double duty.
2. Leave your iPod at home—you'll meet more people.
3. Stay in city centers.  Out-of-the-way hotels can feel solitary.

4. Text message to stay in touch and stave off loneliness.
5. Leave a note with your front desk when dining with strangers. 
   
6. Eat at restaurant bars or communal tables to meet others.
7. If cruising, choose a ship with assigned dinner seating to make friends.
8. Sunglasses are excellent for people watching and looking mysterious.
