The Way You Hold Your Drink Speaks Volumes

The way you hold your drink says a lot about you, psychologist Glenn Wilson tells the BBC. Wilson studied 500 drinkers at the behest of a bar chain, and discerned a series of notable types. Among them:

• The gossip: Will hold a wineglass by the bowl, often gesticulating with it or leaning over it to impart some morsel.

• The fun-lover: Convivial social drinkers, fun-lovers tend to hold a bottle loosely by its shoulder.
• The wallflower: Holds the glass protectively, palms hidden. The glass is often used as a social crutch, and is never quite finished.
• The ice queen: Cold or defensive, ice queens typically drink from a wine or short glass, holding it in a barrier position across their body.
