I'm a Celebrity Falls Flat

After last night's debut, the consensus is clear: With I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! airing four nights a week for 4 weeks, viewers will be the ones begging to get out:

• Overdramatic Hills stars Spencer and Heidi Pratt “furnished most of the limited entertainment value while sending the irritation level off the charts,” writes Frazier Moore for the AP, but “the Pratts are just two people. There's little hope they can save this show.”

• The “celebrities” are actually somewhat entertaining, writes Ken Tucker for Entertainment Weekly, but the challenges—"eating disgusting things; having bugs crawl over the contestants—were the stuff of 1,000 old reality shows."
• “The first episode was a yawn,” writes Paige Wiser for the Chicago Sun-Times, but we can always hope someone has “some sort of breakdown.”
• At least the show serves as a reminder to “the 99% of the population that never watches the Hills how much richer their lives are thanks to that choice,” concludes Brian Lowry in Variety.
