With the Fiat-Chrysler alliance finalized, workers must get hopping to churn out more Jeep Wranglers, the military-vehicle-turned-adventure-ride that’s one of just three American cars whose sales are up this year. It’s “probably one of the main reasons why Chrysler is still here,” an auto analyst tells the Toledo Blade. And Chrysler has only a 30-day supply remaining.
When Ohio workers were laid off two months ago and their factory temporarily shuttered, there was a 63-day supply of the Jeeps. When they return to work this month, they face increased demand and a dwindling supply. “It’s an incremental model that no other manufacturer offers,” says a dealer. “If I sell somebody a Wrangler, it didn’t replace a minivan sale or a car sale.”
