Michael Vick will plead guilty to federal charges related to a dogfighting ring, his lawyer said this afternoon, as part of a deal for leniency; the judge in the case is expected to announce the plea agreement today in Richmond. "Michael wishes to apologize to everyone who has been hurt by this matter," Vick's attorney said.

The maximum sentence for Vick on the charge of conspiracy to cross state lines to engage in illegal gambling is five years, but analysts say his guilty plea could cut that down to a year. And if his deal includes dropping conspiracy charges, he could serve even less time. (More Michael Vick stories.)
