Amanda Knox, the American student accused of killing her British roommate while studying in Italy, says the police beat her during questioning, the AP reports. "Everything that I said was said in confusion and under pressure," Knox testified today. Knox also maintained that she spent the night of Meredith Kercher's 2007 murder at the home of her then-boyfriend, co-defendant Raffaele Sollecito. After starting in Italian, she switched to English, the Times of London reports.
"They called me a stupid liar, said I was trying to protect someone," Knox said. After the killing, which prosecutors say began as a sex game between Sollecito and the two women, Knox implicated a local bar owner. But she later withdrew the statement. "In my confusion I started to imagine that maybe I was traumatized," Knox said today, explaining her accusation of Patrick Lumumba.
