  • Al Capone ran a speakeasy out of the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Fla., in the 1920s.

  • Rumor has it Howard Hughes spent his 10-year stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel in the 1940s watching movies in the nude.
  • The Who drummer Keith Moon took hotel-trashing to the next level in 1967, allegedly driving a Lincoln Continental into a Flint, Mich., Holiday Inn pool.
  • In 1978, ex-Sex Pistol Sid Vicious found girlfriend Nancy Spungen dead on the floor of his room at New York’s Hotel Chelsea.
