Mont. City Wants Facebook Password From Job-Seekers

Job applicants for the city of Bozeman, Mont., had better be prepared to submit their passwords for social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. A miffed applicant emailed Montana's News Station about the practice, which City Attorney Greg Sullivan quickly defended. "We do those types of investigations to make sure the people that we hire have the highest moral character," he said.

Reminded that Facebook passwords would enable the city to see an applicant's online friends, Sullivan said it's "important for folks to understand about what we look for is none of the things that the federal constitution lists as protected things, we don't use those." How about creating a Bozeman Facebook page to befriend applicants online? Sullivan said city officials would look into it.
