Pakistan President General Musharraf,  a key ally of the US in the war on terror, will quit the army ahead of elections next year in a power-sharing deal with former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. The deal, brokered by the US and Britain, is aimed at solving a deepening political crisis in Pakistan, reports London's Daily Telegraph.

Bhutto twice served as prime minister  but both terms ended amid corruption allegations. Bhutto also wants immunity from prosecution, the lifting of a ban on a third term for a prime minister, and a curtailment of the president's power to dismiss governments.  On those isssue, "we are close to an agreement, but we are still not there," Bhutto said.
