School Bans Tag on Playground
Children run around at recess.

When the new term starts next week at a Colorado elementary school, kids won't be chasing each other around the playground. Tag has been banned at Discovery Canyon Campus school, where it was deemed to generate too many injuries and complaints. “It causes a lot of conflict on the playground,” the assistant principal told the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Running is still okay, by school rules, as long as kids aren't chasing each other. Several other Colorado schools have adopted a "structured recess program," aiming to cut down on physical contact between kids and hence reduce playground squabbles, the Gazette reports, noting that the trend concerns some parents and childhood experts who say games like tag foster social and physical development.
