Phillip Garrido was a "multiple sexual deviant" who took LSD daily, masturbated compulsively and stalked schoolgirls, according to court records after his 1976 arrest for kidnap and rape. Jaycee Dugard's accused abductor indulged in "sexual fantasies" watching "young females," he admitted in testimony obtained by the New York Daily News. "I have done it by the side of schools, grammar schools and high schools, in my car," said Garrido.
Police are currently seeking evidence linking Garrido to the disappearance of three schoolgirls near his home after he was freed from prison in 1988. Garrido, fitted with a GPS tracking device, wasn't barred from places where children congregate because he was sentenced for an attack on an adult, CNN notes. Of the '76 attack, Garrido said: "I had this fantasy. No way to stop it." A shrink concluded then that Garrido was competent to stand trial, and found no evidence of "organic brain damage."
