With balloons, cheers and tears of joy, more than 1,000 people took to the streets of South Lake Tahoe yesterday to welcome Jaycee Dugard home after her 18-year abduction ordeal, reports the Sacramento Bee. While Dugard remains secluded with her mother and two daughters in their Califronia home, the crowd marched to the middle school she attended before she was snatched at a bus stop in 1991.

"We love you, our hearts are with you, and we are here for you," the organizer of the event told the crowd. A police officer added: "Thank god for this glorious day that we're not having a memorial or a vigil."
