Pundits jumped today on a report that Hillary Clinton will leave the State Department to run for governor of New York, with Michael Crowley, in the New Republic, saying three Clinton sources dismissed the notion, and that anyone floating such things is “on crack.” That, evidently, would be Republican insider William Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard, where a blogger noted that “the boss” had heard it from two sources.
“If Bill Kristol says it, then it is the opposite of true,” Alex Pareene piles on for Gawker. “That is the only constant in American politics.” Pareene adds, “She has one of the best political jobs in the world already, New York State is a mess and governing it is a shitty job, and, uh, David Paterson’s staff is 75% Clinton vets. If Paterson gives up early and [state attorney general Andrew] Cuomo reveals that he killed JonBenet Ramsey then maybe this happens.”
