In his admirable quest to make government work for the people, President Obama has stooped to the lowest common denominator and vilified “bureaucrats,” writes Max Stier in the Washington Post. A typical shot from the president recently: “I don't want government bureaucrats meddling in your health care.” But, Mr. President, that’s exactly what you do want, Stier writes. And please call them “federal government workers.”
That phrase has a 71% approval rating compared with 20% for “bureaucrats,” Stier points out. These are the people applauded by veterans for VA services, and who manage Social Security and Medicare better than the private sector. Please “avoid demoralizing those who are serving their country by portraying them as nameless, faceless ‘bureaucrats.’” For “the truth, as you know, is that government ‘bureaucrats’ are getting it right every day.” (More bureaucrats stories.)
