As Felix Fizzles, Another Round of Floods Likely

Heavy rain from what's left of Hurricane Felix continues to fall in Honduras and Nicaragua, the BBC reports, and residents are struggling to prepare for "life-threatening" flash floods and mudslides. "Here it rains for two hours and the city floods," said the mayor of Tegucigalpa. "They're saying it could rain for 18 hours and we're preparing for the worst."

Felix blasted northeast Nicaragua yesterday as a Category 5 storm; authorities have declared the area a disaster zone. The storm has brought back memories of 1998's Hurricane Mitch, which killed 10,000 people, many in Honduras. Meanwhile, to the north, Hurricane Henriette is moving across mainland Mexico, where it could also cause dangerous flooding. (More Hurricane Felix stories.)
