SADDAM'S VP HANGS

Saddam’s loyal vice president was hanged today for the same crimes as his boss. Taha Yassin Ramadan became the fourth to be executed in Iraq for the 1982 massacre of Shias in the city of Dujail. Ramadan’s original sentence of life in prison was found on appeal to be too lenient, and the court traded up to death.

Care was taken this time to avoid a repeat of the nasty “head popping off” incident that occurred at the hanging of Saddam’s half brother, Barzan Ibrahim. But human rights organizations continue to protest the lack of legal process at the trials. (More Saddam Hussein stories.)
