Miami-Dade police are searching for a suspect who killed one officer and wounded three today, possibly with an AK-47, after his car was stopped while driving erratically. The pursuit was complicated when police misidentified a man whose wallet had been stolen as the gunman, before naming Shawn Sherwin Labeet as the correct suspect, the Herald reports. 

Police believe the suspect is armed and wearing a bulletproof vest. Officials closed streets and highway exits and ordered residents to remain indoors, as officers wearing combat helmets and fatigues patrolled neighborhoods. “This is a very sad day for us,” Miami-Dade’s mayor said. “We need to get this guy.” (More Miami-Dade County stories.)
