Ted Kennedy was so determined to live long enough to attend Barack Obama's inauguration that he trained for it and even figured out how many steps he'd need to take that day. "He was exercising every single day to be strong enough to be there," his widow, Vicki, told Oprah Winfrey in an interview airing today. As for talk that she herself might vie for her husband's Senate seat: "No, no, not for me."

Vicki said Ted kept working long after his diagnosis, even calling senators about health care legislation as he traveled to undergo brain surgery, reports AP. "It was an inspiration, really," she said. And the senator's last words to his wife? "I think I'll just keep that one to myself," said Vicki.
