With an 8 under par, South African Tim Clark began the PGA Tour Championship by tying the 62-stroke record at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, reports the Kansas City Star. Only nine of his fellow golfers can compare their scores to his, however, as severe weather delays kept the other 20 players from completing the course.

Among those who finished yesterday, Irishman Padraig Harrington shot a 63, and John Rollins a 64. Tiger Woods, who ended at 4 under par after 11 holes, will continue this morning on much smoother greens. Yesterday's heavy rains left the course drenched and dented with footprints, a major setback for those who started in later groups. (More Tim Clark stories.)
