Finally, a new generation of impressionable minds can get to know Miss Yvonne, Cowboy Curtis, and—most importantly—Pee-wee Herman, in a new live stage show. “I really want to make a movie version of The Playhouse, my Saturday morning kid show,” Reubens—acting as Pee-wee—says, and “this seemed like a great way to reintroduce it.” The Pee-wee Herman Show, featuring 11 actors and 19 puppets, opens next month in Los Angeles, PopEater reports.
The show marks a return to the character’s roots: Reubens first played Pee-wee in a 1981 live show and went on to make a feature film and TV series but abruptly shelved the character after being arrested for indecent exposure, the AP adds. The new show brings back Playhouse characters and original cast members, and centers around Pee-wee wanting to fly. Reubens is “very, very worn out” just from rehearsing, he tells PopEater—but he should get used to it, because if it’s popular enough, it could head to Broadway or Las Vegas.
