The Washington police department has launched an investigation following reports that an off-duty officer drew his gun during a snowball fight involving some 200 people. The DC plainclothes officer's personal car was pelted during the mass snowball fight, which was organized via Twitter and Facebook. He emerged from his car, yelled at the crowd and drew his gun, according to witnesses. A uniformed officer, also armed, arrived after receiving reports that someone had a gun.

The snowball fight was “pretty fun” according to a participant, though “when the gun came out, it just changed the tone of the thing." There was no evidence that either officer pointed a gun at any individual or the crowd, said a department statement.
