Liberal blogger Jane Hamsher and anti-tax conservative crusader Grover Norquist agree on exactly one thing: They both want Rahm Emanuel out of the White House, immediately. The two have joined forces to demand a Justice Department investigation into Emanuel’s ties to Freddie Mac. In a letter signed by both and delivered today, they allege that because Emanuel sat on Freddie’s board from 2000 to 2001, he’s complicit in the company’s defrauding of investors.

“We make common cause today out of grave concern for the future of our country in the wake of corruption-riddled bailouts,” Hamsher and Norquist write. They accuse the White House chief of staff with “stonewalling” an investigation into Freddie until he’s clear of the 10-year statute of limitations. They note, for example, that the White House blocked a Chicago Tribune Freedom of Information Act request for minutes of the board’s meetings during Emanuel’s tenure. On FireDogLake Hamscher defends her choice of Norquist as an ally against Emanuel, accusing the latter of "corrupt back-room deals" that are "destroying not only the Democratic majority but the Democratic Party."
