About 3,000 volunteers showed up on Christmas morning today to search for an 11-year-old girl believed abducted from her bedroom by a sex offender. Sarah Haley Foxwell has been missing since Tuesday when her younger sister saw her leave the bedroom with their aunt's ex-boyfriend, a registered sex offender. He is under arrest and charged with kidnapping but is not cooperating with police, reports the Baltimore Sun.

Police say they are holding out hope that Sarah is still alive and have asked residents in Wicomico County to search their own property and leave red ribbons out front to let authorities know it's been cleared. "We will not dismantle this operation until we find Sarah Foxwell," said the county sheriff. "This is not a recovery mission. This is a rescue mission." (More missing child stories.)
