The Sarkozy administration is being hit with another charge of nepotism as an "unqualified" pal of French First Lady Carla Bruni has snagged a top government job. Interior designer François Baudot, 60, the godfather of Bruni's son from an earlier relationship, is the new $72,000-a-year inspector general of cultural affairs, even though a government panel determined he lacked the qualifications for the post, reports the Telegraph.
The appointment comes as a new poll reveals that nearly half of the French believe that Bruni is using her influence with her husband to meddle in national affairs. "She is responsible for most of the head of state's woes," complained one member of Parliament. President Nicolas Sarkozy came under heated criticism recently after his 23-year-old law student son was about to be appointed head of a major quasi-governmental business organization.
