Today's GOP Would Have Impeached Gore After 9/11

The aftermath of the Detroit terror attempt has exposed some ugly truths about American politics, writes Chris Bowers. He lists several in Open Left.

• The GOP would have impeached Al Gore over 9/11. The "aggressive, partisan response" this failed terror attempt met shows they certainly wouldn't have been saying "United We Stand" if Gore had been president in 2001, Bowers argues.

• Single individuals can easily change American policy through a threat of violence, Bowers writes, pointing to hastily updated TSA regulations.
• Some Republicans—especially Sen. Jim DeMint, who has been blocking the confirmation of a TSA chief over labor issues—believe unions are a greater threat to America than terrorists.
• Prominent conservatives, including Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin, would be happy to do away with due process for accused criminals.
• They'd also like to establish an anti-Muslim apartheid state in America.
• Some Democrats would be happy to go along with just about any of these if they thought it would win votes.
