Roger Ebert gives Rush Limbaugh a pretty enthusiastic thumbs down over his comments on Haiti yesterday. The Chicago Sun-Times critic wrote an open letter to Limbaugh today, opining that he “should be horsewhipped for the insult you have paid to the highest office of our nation.” Ebert was incensed that Rush had suggested that President Obama “might be a thief capable of stealing money intended for the earthquake victims.”

Yesterday, Limbaugh criticized Obama for directing would-be donors to whitehouse.gov, saying he doubted Haiti would see the money. This rant came with tens of thousands still buried alive in Haiti. “You twisted their suffering into an opportunity to demean the character of the President of the United States,” Ebert writes. In reality, of course, the whitehouse.gov link points straight to the Red Cross, and it’s a good way to avoid scam sites. (More Roger Ebert stories.)
