Another alarming prediction about the pace of global warming—that the Himalayan glaciers will "very likely" have vanished by 2035—appears to be questionable at best. Turns out the warning 2 years ago from the UN's climate agency, the IPCC, was based on an 8-year-old story in a popular journal New Scientist, and that in turn was based on speculation from an Indian scientist, who now says his estimate wasn't supported by any research. To make matters worse, the London Times reports, this scandal has revealed that the author of the IPCC section on glaciers actually had very little experience in the subject matter.
