Martha Coakley was in full campaign mode at this morning’s Martin Luther King Day breakfast in Boston, drawing instant criticism from opponent Scott Brown. “I’m running for Senate because Dr. King’s work is unfinished, his dream is unrealized,” Coakley declared. “Tomorrow we act on the dream.” As he left, Brown scoffed. “I didn’t know this was a rally for Martha,” he said. "I thought it was inappropriate."

Indeed, the Breakfast Committee tells ABC5 that it invited Coakley to speak as Attorney General, not as a campaigning candidate. But Democrats weren’t about to pass up an opportunity to campaign, and they were furiously launching attacks of their own, accusing Brown of questioning Obama’s citizenship (he hasn’t), and of smiling and encouraging a supporter who urged him to “shove a curling iron up [Coakley’s] butt.” (More Martha Coakley stories.)
