Notre Dame has refused to release sophomore QB Demtrius Jones from his scholarship, saying that they did not think his departure "was handled appropriately."  Jones was named the starter heading into the season, but was demoted after a poor performance in a season opening 33-3 loss to Georgia Tech.

Jones felt slighted. "When I heard Jimmy [Clausen] was the No. 1 all the way through spring, well that's not what I was led to believe going into the summer," he said.  Jones is transferring to Northern Illinois and plans to practice with the team, but he'll have to pay his own way this year.  (More Notre Dame stories.)
