A Chilean court ruled today to extradite Peru's ex-president Alberto Fujimori to his former country to face corruption and human rights abuse charges, Reuters reports. Judges cited evidence from two massacres linked to Fujimori’s war with Maoist faction Shining Path as the key to their decision. Fujimori has been detained in Chile since late 2005.

Charges against Fujimori stem from what some term over-the-top measures he used against Shining Path. His 2005 arrest came en route to a planned comeback in Peru, where some still admire his defeat of the Shining Path. "Fujimori will finally have to respond to the charges in the country he used to run like a mafia boss," said a human rights activist. (More Alberto Fujimori stories.)
