Britney Spears could be the next Paris Hilton: yesterday the troubled actress was slapped with charges of hit-and-run and driving without a license that could earn her as much as a year in jail. The misdemeanor counts stem from an Aug. 6 incident in which Spears drove into another vehicle in an LA parking lot, checked her own car for damage, and then walked away.
A video posted on a celeb web site outed Spears for hitting the car of a 59-year-old nurse, who says she was "sort of amused and sort of shocked" to learn that Britney's Mercedes convertible was the source of the damage, but she wanted her car fixed. Spears is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 10, but she doesn't have to appear. Each charge carries a $1,000 fine and up to six months' jail time. (More Britney Spears stories.)
