We all know the big names playing in tomorrow’s Super Bowl—Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Reggie Bush—but Irin Carmon has an enormous crush on Saints linebacker Scott Fujita, and thinks you should, too. Some reasons why, per Jezebel:
- Though he was given up for adoption by a teen mom (and adopted by a Japanese-American family), he’s not on board with Tim Tebow’s pro-life ad. “I’m just so thankful she had the courage and the support system to be able to carry out the pregnancy,” Fujita said. “I wouldn’t expect that of everybody.”
- He speaks out in support of gay rights, in part because a New Orleans orphanage he supports is limited in allowing gay couples to adopt.
- He says he draws strength from the example set by his Japanese-American grandmother, interned during World War II.
- Two degrees from UC-Berkeley: bachelor’s in political science and master’s in education. Unafraid of being called a “Pinko Communist Fag from Berkeley,” he wants to teach when he’s through with the NFL.
