Tina Fey Talks Fashion With Vogue

Tina Fey has learned a lot about fashion as her star has gotten brighter—for example, the trick of holding up your breasts with double-sided tape—yet she was “clobbered” for the Zac Posen dress she wore to the Golden Globes. “Do you think George Clooney will hold a telethon for my dress?” she asks Jonathan Van Meter of Vogue. See what she had to say about other awards show looks in the gallery. For more from the interview, including the fallout from her Sarah Palin impersonation, read on:

  • On her most unfortunate outfit: "It consisted of a bonnet and a burlap apron and a long skirt. And I would just wear it sometimes after school. As an outfit. It was the Bicentennial! People were excited!"
  • On her teenage taste in fashion: "It was a white denim suit: a fitted skirt above the knee, and then the top was a jacket with a turned-up collar that you could zip all the way up. I remember thinking, I look fantastic in this. I have really come into my own in my white denim suit."
  • On fashion magazines: "People will say, 'Oh, fashion magazines are so bad, they're giving girls a negative message'—but we're also the fattest country in the world, so it's not like we're all looking at fashion magazines and not eating. Maybe it just starts a shame cycle: I'm never going to look like that model, so…Chicken McNuggets it is!”
  • On her Sarah Palin impersonation: "People started projecting politics onto me. There are people who hate me now because of that. The weird thing is, when Darrell Hammond or Will Ferrell or Dana Carvey did an impersonation of a president, no one assumed it was personal, but because Sarah Palin and I are both women and people think women are meaner to each other, everyone assumed it was personal."
