A German snowboarder who was trapped on a chair lift for 6 hours says he'd probably be dead now if he hadn't had money to burn. Dominic Podolsky was stuck on the lift in freezing temperatures when it shut down for the day. After darkness fell, he began burning the contents of his wallet to attract attention and stay warm, and was on his final 20 euro note when he was spotted by a snowcat driver, Der Spiegel reports.

Podolsky was freed from the lift and treated in a nearby hospital for hypothermia and released. He's considering suing the company that operates the lift at a resort in the Austrian Alps, although a spokesman for the firm says the lift isn't meant to be used for downward journeys and that Podolsky apparently ignored warning signs not to board it.
