Tiger Woods' much-anticipated statement to the press comes during a break from his therapy, according to a letter from PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem obtained by AP. Fellow golfers have slammed Woods for choosing to make his first public comments since his car crash and subsequent scandals during the Match Play Championship, but Finchem says he had little choice.
"As we understand it, Tiger's therapy called for a week's break at this time during which he has spent a few days with his children and then will make his statement before returning," Finchem wrote. "Accordingly, there was very little flexibility in the date for the announcement." Woods—labeled "selfish" by golf pro Ernie Els for taking attention away from the Accenture-sponsored championship—will be making his statement at 11 am EST.
