Most of Tim Pawlenty’s speech to CPAC today was standard small government conservatism, but he decided to illustrate his point with a Tiger Woods joke of questionable taste: “We can learn a lot from that situation, not from Tiger, but from his wife,” the normally staid Minnesota governor said. “We should take a page out of her playbook and take a nine iron and smash the window out of big government. We've had enough.”
Pawlenty’s comparison of the situation of American conservatives and the rumored rage of the beleaguered wife of a serial philanderer was picked up quickly by Democrats. “Tim Pawlenty today said that the country should take a nine iron to the government,” a DNC official quips to Politics Daily, “but instead all he did today was take a nine iron to his own credibility.” Snap! For the record, Tiger Woods today maintained “there has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage, ever.” (More Tim Pawlenty stories.)
