The Pogoplug device seems like the perfect solution for people who want to access and share their files over the Internet but are wary of storing their personal data "in the cloud," writes Katherine Boehret. The $129 device allows users to access hard drives or other devices connected to its four USB ports from anywhere with an Internet connection, Boehret writes in the Wall Street Journal.
Unlike with other cloud-storage options, Pogoplug users just pay upfront for the device and a hard drive (total tally, about $200) instead of being charged monthly fees, which equals big savings, Boehret notes. She found it easy to set up and smooth to use, although files seemed slower to open from remote computers or mobile devices than from computers in the Pogopug network. Overall, "Pogoplug is a terrifically simple way to back up files and make them accessible from afar or on the go," Boehret concludes.
