Kim Yu-na of South Korea won the women's figure skating gold medal at the Vancouver Olympics tonight in record fashion. Kim shattered her own world mark by scoring 228.56 points, more than 18 higher than her previous record. The victory is South Korea's first Olympic medal in the sport.
Mao Asada of Japan took silver, but finished 23 points behind Kim. Joannie Rochette, whose mother died four days ago, earned the bronze, Canada's first women's medal in the games since Calgary in 1988. American Mirai Nagasu took fifth.
