Liz Cheney's 'Al-Qaeda 7' Attack 'Shameful': GOP

Attacks by Liz Cheney and GOP senators on lawyers appointed to the Obama Justice Department after defending suspected terrorists are "shameful," "unjust to the individuals in question," and "destructive of any attempt to build lasting mechanisms for counterterrorism adjudications," a group of top conservative lawyers and policy experts wrote in response to Cheney's attack ad calling the appointees the 'Al-Qaeda 7.'

The letter, signed by 19 conservatives including Ken Starr and several senior Bush administration veterans, said Cheney's attacks “undermine the Justice system" by rejecting the principle that accused terrorists should have lawyers. The dispute between conservative lawyers and Cheney's Keep America Safe group reflects a Bush-era rift between the legal establishment and allies of Dick Cheney over treatment of detainees, Politico reports.
