A day after donating their blood, they hurled it: Anti-government Thai protesters tossed plastic buckets of blood at the residential compound of Thailand's prime minister today, leaving the walls, roof, and ground stained red. Though riot police initially blocked Abhisit Vejjajiva's walled compound, three dozen red-shirted demonstrators were allowed to squeeze through following negotiations, carrying about six jugs filled with frothy blood over their heads, reports the AP.
Abhisit's front gate was doused with some of it; some was poured into plastic bags that protesters hurled at the compound. And while there was tension, the overall mood was festive, with Thai country music playing from the protesters' trucks, and both demonstrators and police smiling and waving to residents. Later in the day, several thousand Thais gathered in front of the US Embassy, announcing that they wanted to tell the international community that their government is illegitimate. The protest leader reportedly went inside and spoke with US diplomats.
