Why the Split? Kate Got 'Bored'

Friends of Sam Mendes were quick to shoot down yesterday’s rumors that another woman came between him and soon-to-be-ex-wife Kate Winslet. “Yes, they know each other, but that's about it,” says one source of Rebecca Hall, who starred in a few of Mendes’ productions. In fact, Hall is “friends with Kate, too.” A rep for Mendes agrees. Another source tells the New York Daily News that Winslet was simply growing “bored” with the marriage.

Yet another source tells Us that, after months of tension, the pair decided “it was over” when Winslet signed on to a miniseries in New York while Mendes wanted to stay in London. “Kate told Sam, ‘Your career is not more important than mine,’” the source says.
