Body of Missing Wash. Boy Washes Ashore

Washington police say the body that washed up on the shores of Puget Sound today is that of 8-year-old Azriel James Carver, who went missing over the weekend along with his mother, Shantina Smiley. The 29-year-old has not been found; authorities discovered her minivan partially submerged on Sunday, about 12 miles from where Carver’s body was found today.

Authorities tell the Seattle Times it was Carver’s father who made the identification; he and Smiley are divorced. Smiley’s fiancé said she is an alcoholic, and had recently begun drinking again.
