The divisive fight over health care reform is over—for now—but the fallout will foil any attempts at bipartisanship, John McCain vowed today. "There will be no cooperation for the rest of the year," he told an Arizona radio station. "They have poisoned the well in what they've done and how they've done it." McCain, who is locked in a contentious primary battle, later took to the Senate floor to excoriate the Democratic leadership, from President Obama on down.
"For someone who campaigned on ‘Country First’ and claims to take great pride in bipartisanship, it’s absolutely bizarre for Senator McCain to tell the American people he is going to take his ball and go home until the next election," Harry Reid's office said in a statement to the Hill. "You know it may be in the view of some that this is a victory for the president of the United States," McCain said of the legislation, which Obama is expected to sign tomorrow. "But what it is is a defeat of the American people."
