Syracuse became the second No. 1 seed to tumble out of the NCAA men's basketball tournament, losing tonight to fifth-seeded Butler, 63-59. The Bulldogs (31-4) advance to the tourney's final eight; one more victory and they would play in the Final Four in their home city, Indianapolis. Butler will No. 2 seed Kansas State on Saturday.

In another early game, second-seeded West Virginia fended off a challenge from 11th seed Washington, moving on with a 69-56 victory. The Mountaineers (30-6) will face top-seeded Kentucky on Saturday for a trip to Indianapolis.
