Uma Thurman is apparently not a household name in Britain. When her new movie, Motherhood, opened earlier this month, it grossed a grand total of $131 over the weekend. That number includes a rare feat: On the Sunday of the debut, exactly one person bought a ticket. "You're kidding?" producer Jana Edelbaum tells the Guardian. "We must have broken a new record for grosses."

The film, about a harried Manhattan mom, didn't exactly burn up the US box office, either, but it managed $60,000 on its weekend debut here. The studio blames the UK marketer's strategy of limiting the opening to one theater to create buzz. It's no longer up anywhere there. "Think how much crap succeeds at the cinema," said Edelbaum. "Motherhood is not bad. It's a very decent movie. I've seen movies that are not half as good." (More Uma Thurman stories.)
