Did Jeffrey Dahmer Murder Adam Walsh?
Jeffrey Dahmer was in South Florida in 1981, when Adam Walsh was abducted.   (LovingSerialKillers)

In 2008, police in Hollywood, Fla., announced they had confirmed the identity of the man who abducted and murdered Adam Walsh: Otis Toole, a longtime suspect in the 1981 crime who had died in 1996. But a Miami Herald investigation suggests a link between the disappearance of the 6-year-old—whose father, John Walsh, became a victims' rights advocate and host of America's Most Wanted after his son's murder—and a much higher-profile criminal: Jeffrey Dahmer.

Some witnesses say investigators dismissed accounts of the crime that didn't implicate Toole. Another says she has tried in vain to tell Hollywood police she believes she saw Dahmer and Adam at Sears, where Adam was last seen, the day the boy disappeared. Others say they recognized Dahmer immediately when his cannibalistic killing spree came to light in 1991. And records show police spent 2 weeks looking into the possible connection—in 2002. "This investigation has not established any link," the officer concluded.
