Newt Gingrich is defending—and, in fact, repeating—his assertion that President Obama is "the most radical president in American history." Only those in the "cultural elite" could possibly view his administration as moderate, he writes in the Washington Post. It is a "secular-socialist machine," and he dissects each word to prove his point.
Here's a bit of his argument:
- Secular: Obama himself has called the US a "secular country," which Gingrich calls "an act of willful historical revisionism." The Founders forbade a national religion but recognized that "our rights come from God."
- Socialist: Among other things, "creating czar positions to micromanage industry reflects the type of hubris of centralized government that Friedrich von Hayek and George Orwell warned against."
- Machine: In ramming through health care reform, Obama in effect told the American people, "Your voice and vote do not matter."
