The debut of Alex Gibney's untitled Eliot Spitzer documentary this weekend could be kind of awkward—Spitzer's going to be there, and the movie, though sympathetic, doesn't pull any punches when it comes to the Client No. 9 scandal. But Spitzer is embracing it, Politico reports, as a strategic move to shut the door on the call-girl scandal and mount what he now openly admits is an attempt at a political comeback.

The former New York governor is also endorsing an upcoming biography, which takes the same sympathetic but critical tone. It reveals, for example, that Spitzer started seeing a prostitute earlier than previously reported, and lied about various other events in his political career as well. Spitzer sees the book and movie as “a great steppingstone,” says one friend and former ad man. “I think he will run for something in a year or two.” (More Eliot Spitzer stories.)
