Rejoice! The New York Times reports that “Hollywood is no longer casting talent with duck lips, fake breasts, and wrinkle-free foreheads." But wait: That’s not entirely true. Read the entire article, writes Tracy Clark-Flory, and you’ll see that it’s still “considered perfectly acceptable for a ‘talented 35-plus actress’ to have ‘particularly good surgery.’ Particularly good surgery—ah, there’s the rub.”

The truth is, the backlash isn’t so much against Botox as it is against bad Botox. And not just at 35-plus but at any age, argues Clark-Flory, writing for Salon. “The same thing could be said about magazine airbrushing: Removing pores, covering up pimples and other modifications that largely pass under our retouching radar are just fine,” she writes—but start lopping off body parts or, in the case of plastic surgery, turning women into “fembots,” and “we’re repulsed.”
