The Republican Party could be at a significant financial disadvantage when next year’s presidential race begins in earnest, according to Politico's Jeanne Cummings. The leading Democratic White House hopefuls have raised $200 million since January—twice what their Republican counterparts have garnered. The trend extends beyond the presidential race with Democrats raising more than Republicans across the board.

The major Democratic candidates raised a combined $63 million between July 1 and Sept. 30, compared to  $33 million expected from top Republicans. Hillary Clinton alone raised $27 in the third quarter. The trend illustrates the difficulty Republicans are having in re-energizing a party demoralized by the debates on the war in Iraq and immigration reform, and with no clear front runner in the presidential race.
